One of the things Seagate got along with their recent buyout of Maxtor was their popular line of external hard drives. Maxtor was smart enough to forsee the trend in easy to install external drives that used USB and/Firewire interfaces, beating both Seagate and Western Digital to that market.

Now Maxtor is adding to their OneTouch series of personal and small business (now in it’s 3rd iteration).

The Maxtor Fusion external USB hard drive is made for networks. The device can be used as a web file server besides the usual storage/backup functions. Starting at 500gb and supporting gigabit ethernet this box comes with software to easily organize and share your media content with other members even while you are working remotely.

With something like this the software is a critical component of the system. After all what good is a fast drive if backing up and file sharing and organizing is a pain in the butt?
Crunchgear has a nice review of the drive and its software for your perusal.
