Sandisk 2GB microSD Cards for MP3 Phones Like Motorola ROKR or E770V

Sandisk has introduced a 2GB addition to their current lineup of 64mb, 256mb, 512mb and 1gb micro SD memory cards. These larger capacity cards are in anticipation of the coming boom in mp3 music and smartphones.

Strategy Analytics, a global research company, estimates that more than one-fourth of all handsets sold in 2006 will play music, and by the end of next year that number is projected to be more than half of all units shipped. Also, for 2006, an estimated 270 million mobile phones – about 29 percent of all new shipments – will have memory card slots, according to Chris Ambrosio, director of Wireless Device Strategies Service for the Boston-based research firm."

Currently it looks like RS-MMC (Reduced Size MultiMedia Card) is popular on Nokias and other manfucturers while Motorola is the only one picking up support for microSD. Perhaps a year down the road will see a clear winner.
